On April 10th, we went on a field trip to the Oak Grove Nature Center. We had a tour guide that took us on a trail to show us what the Indians had to do to live in the area. She also showed us some of the awesome inventions made by the Indians. We went into the museum that had all sorts of artifacts and both living and stuffed animals. After we were done, we played animal charades. It was so funny!!! After we finished, another tour guide took us on another trail where we could try and find animals that are in trees or on the ground. It was a fun field trip! Written by: Presten Hope everyone had a chance to come out and see what your kids have been working on. They did a great job showing their rockets!!
Today, we launched the bottle rockets we have spent the last few weeks making! With some successes and some fails, here are some pictures and videos! By: Jamie Today, we used balloons, straws, and other items to attempt to make a "rocket" go up a string and touch the ceiling. After that, we had to redesign it to bring paper clips up! Here are some pictures of this. By: Jamie Today, we had a visitor from Discovery Ed that did an activity. It was during math time, so not all kids are from our class. Breakout Edu is a tool that classroom teachers can use similar to an escape room. Their task was to use clues that they were given to unlock a series of locks. We will we doing more in the future!
By: Jamie Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! We celebrated this fun event with our first socratic seminar. Socratic seminars are student-led discussions- based on Socrates' method of questioning rather than teacher lecture. The kids did an AMAZING job!
Today we started Literature Circles. Each group is reading a different book based on their reading level.
Today our class started a new PBL on genetics. We did an introduction activity genetic sequencing and the students got to built monsters. The students are very competitive and were racing to see how fast the could decode the genetic sequence! Ask your student to show you the website...maybe you can beat them!! |
